Privacy policy
Last updated 28 July 2026
Orange is a place to keep sentences that matter to you. That only works if the sentences stay yours. This page says exactly what we hold and why.
The short version
- Your notes live on your device. They are not uploaded unless you turn on sync.
- We do not sell or rent your personal information. There is no advertising in Orange.
- We do not build advertising profiles or share your reading with data brokers.
- You can delete your account, and everything attached to it, from inside the app.
The rest of this page is the detail behind those four lines.
Who we are
Orange (“we”, “us”) provides the Orange iPhone app and this website. For privacy questions, use the support form.
What we collect
Account information
When you sign in with Apple or Google we receive an identifier for you and, depending on what you choose to share, your name and email address. If you use Apple’s Hide My Email, we only ever see the relay address. We use this to keep your library attached to you and to contact you about the service — not for marketing.
Your notes and library
The books you save, the notes you write, the stickers you place and the World you choose are stored on your device. They are transmitted to our servers only if you switch on cloud sync, which is an optional Orange Plus feature and is off by default. With sync off, your notes never leave your phone.
Purchases
Subscriptions and any print orders are processed by Apple and by our payment processor. We receive confirmation that a purchase happened and what it was for. We never receive your card number. Card details go directly to the payment processor and are never held by us.
Print orders
If you order a printed poster of a note, we collect the shipping address you enter and pass it to our print and fulfilment partner solely to make and deliver that order.
Diagnostics
We collect crash reports and basic, aggregated usage counts (for example: how often a screen fails to load) so we can fix what is broken. These do not contain the text of your notes.
Website analytics
On this website, we use PostHog to understand aggregate engagement: which sections are reached and for roughly how long, approximate scroll depth, interactions with the site’s galleries and controls, theme choices, frequently opened questions, calls to action, waitlist outcomes and page performance. These are fixed, content-free event labels rather than recordings of the page. We do not record sessions, autocapture clicks or form contents, create person profiles, or send the email address entered in the waitlist form. The website analytics identifier lasts only for the open page and is not stored in cookies or local storage.
What we do not collect
- Your contacts, photos library, location or calendar.
- The content of your notes, unless you have enabled sync.
- Anything for advertising purposes. Orange has no ads and no ad SDKs.
The camera is used only when you point it at a page to capture a quote, and only while that screen is open.
Why we’re allowed to hold it
If you are in the UK, EU or another region with similar law, our lawful bases are: performing our contract with you (running your account, delivering purchases), legitimate interests (keeping the service working and secure), consent (optional sync, which you switch on yourself and can switch off), and legal obligation (keeping tax records for purchases).
Who else sees it
We use a small number of providers, each for one job:
- Apple and Google — sign-in.
- Apple — subscription billing through the App Store.
- Google Books — book search. A search sends your query, not your identity.
- PostHog — privacy-limited product analytics for the app and this website.
- Our hosting and payment providers — running the service and taking payment.
- Our print partner — only when you place a print order, and only your order and shipping details.
We may also disclose information where the law requires it, or to protect the rights and safety of our users. We do not sell your personal information, and we do not share it for cross-context behavioural advertising.
How long we keep it
Account data is kept for as long as your account exists. When you delete your account we remove your account record and any synced content within 30 days, except records we are legally required to keep (such as purchase receipts for tax). Notes held only on your device are gone the moment you delete the app.
Your rights
You can ask us to give you a copy of your data, correct it, delete it, restrict how we use it, or object to a particular use. Account deletion is available directly in the app — here is how. For anything else, use the support form and we will respond within 30 days. If you are in the EU or UK and are unhappy with our response, you may complain to your local data protection authority.
Children
Orange is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect their personal information. If you believe a child has given us data, write to us and we will delete it.
International transfers
Our providers may process data in countries other than yours, including the United States. Where required, those transfers rely on appropriate safeguards such as the European Commission’s Standard Contractual Clauses.
The waitlist on this site
If you enter your email address on this website, we use it for one thing: to tell you when Orange is available. We do not add you to a newsletter and we do not pass the address on. Reply to that email asking to be removed and we will remove it.
Changes
If we change this policy in a way that matters, we will say so in the app before the change takes effect. The date at the top always reflects the current version.
